A lot of schools now-a-days have switched to a dress code. Their reason? Well, they believe that us kids judge on clothing, and, I will sadly admit, that it's true. But will that really stop bullying for those who would have worn "crudey" clothes? No, no it won't. A dress code will do nothing but portray the school as a "preppy" and- as some people would say- "snobby" school. Now, that's not true, but like I've stated before, people judge others by their clothing.
So why not just let us wear our own style of clothing? Many people express themselves through their clothing. When you get out of high school, you won't have to dress like everyone else, so why do it in high school? Sure, having your clothing already picked out would give you extra time in the morning, but isn't the hunt the best part of the morning? You know, going around searching for that striped sock or hot pink cardigan.
In simple terms, clothing is a way of expressing one's self. We're living in a world full of creativity, and clothing might just be a positive way to express that creative self.
i totally agree with that

ReplyDeleteI agree with you, people do judge and a dress code really won't change anything, but it might change things. They won't really have anything to judge if they are all wearing the same thing. There is a down fall to both sides. If they can't judge clothing they will most likely find something else to judge. And letting people express themselves could get out of hand.
ReplyDeleteI agree, people have a way of wearing clothes to express themselves. Not all people wear the same thing, because they want to be different. It would be a good idea to wear what you want in school, because it prepares yourself for future references. Your not always going to be dressed by a parent or guardian, or even a school dress code. We should think for ourselves sometimes.
ReplyDeleteBut those same people will probably be judged and picked on for another reason. Bullies are people who feel insignificant, and, therefor, has to make themselves feel better by making others feel worse, and they always find a way to make fun of a kid, rather it's his/her shoes, hair, or even face.
ReplyDeleteI agree that students do judge on what other students wear. I feel that a valid solution to that problem is to wear a standard uniform. I agree that people will still be judged but if we can fix one of the things that students are judge on then I say we should do it. We cannot fix problems by ignoring them. Dress codes are a solution and until there is a better solution than I say that the kids should dress alike.
ReplyDeleteClothes are how we're judged. Just because we wear the same thing, doesn't mean we'll get along. The bullies will keep at it, because it's all they know how to do. Let us be us, I say, and to heck with anyone who tries to change us. In other words, I agree with you, and btw, based on Your comment on nathan's blog, I WANT TO SEE A LIME GREEN PIG FLY!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree that having uniforms would probably not let the kids get picked on for their clothes, and it will make the kids alike, but there's always a way around the rules.
ReplyDeleteAnd clothes are a good way to judge a character. I know how horrible that sounds, but it's true. I mean, we shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but clothing tells a lot about a person. I can understand dress regulations, but dress codes, as in a uniform? I think that's going a tad bit too far
noice... I agree, plus if I had to wear stuff for a dress code I'd probably quit. I think it would be way horrible. I do what i want :) haha.
